Body armor stops bullets. A tourniquet stops you from bleeding out. If you're serious about personal protection, medical training is just as important as the gear you carry — and most people skip it entirely.
At Michigan Munitions, we believe in equipping people completely. That means not just selling you quality body armor and plate carriers, but pointing you toward the training that makes that gear meaningful. That's why we've partnered with Refuge Medical to offer our customers access to world-class trauma and first aid training.
Why Tactical First Aid Training Matters
Law enforcement statistics consistently show that the majority of preventable trauma deaths occur from hemorrhage — uncontrolled bleeding — before EMS arrives. Whether you're a civilian, a concealed carrier, a hunter, or a first responder, knowing how to control bleeding and manage a casualty in the first few minutes can be the difference between life and death.
The skills you learn in a quality trauma course — tourniquet application, wound packing, needle decompression, airway management — are the same skills taught to military combat medics and used on battlefields around the world. They're not complicated. But you have to train them before you need them.
About Refuge Medical
Refuge Medical is one of the most respected names in civilian trauma training and medical gear. Their courses are taught by experienced medical professionals and combat veterans, and they cover everything from basic bleeding control to advanced trauma care. Refuge Medical also produces high-quality IFAK (Individual First Aid Kit) components and medical gear trusted by professionals.
Their curriculum is built around the TECC (Tactical Emergency Casualty Care) and TCCC (Tactical Combat Casualty Care) frameworks — the same evidence-based protocols used by military and law enforcement across the country.
What Courses Are Available
Through our partnership with Refuge Medical, Michigan Munitions customers have access to a full range of training options including:

Pair Your Training With the Right Gear
If you're taking a trauma course, you'll want to build out your IFAK at the same time. A basic kit should include at minimum:
- A CAT or SOFTT-W tourniquet
- Hemostatic gauze (Combat Gauze or Celox)
- A chest seal (vented, like the HyFin)
- Emergency trauma dressing
- Nitrile gloves
- A mylar emergency blanket
- A marker (for writing TQ time on the casualty)
Many of our plate carriers include IFAK pouches or are compatible with aftermarket medical pouches — so you can carry your trauma kit right on your armor.
